Ionic Air Purifiers - Safety Is Top Priority

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

User safety must be top priority in the selection of an ionic air purifier for use in the home, office, factory or school.

Existing ionic air purifier technology, regardless of whether they originate in North America, Europe, Japan or China produce a primary beneficial reactive agent. These reactive agents are known variously by names like negative ions, bipolar ions, plasmacluster ions and so on. Their main role is to eliminate airborne contaminants in our indoor living environment. There is much research on the efficacy of these reactive agents in destroying contaminants. What we do not know is whether these same potent reactive agents also cause harm to fragile human tissues such as those that line our breathing passages from the trachea to the lungs.

There is also an information vacuum about whether there are other by-products and if these are harmful to human tissues as well. In the industry, however, it is known that current ionic air purifier technology inadvertently results in the production of by-products. In sufficient quantities, these may prove harmful to human tissue. One of the main by-products is the infamous ozone, which in high concentrations has been tested to be harmful to human tissues.

Accordingly, for the ionic air purifier user, the issue of safety has to be addressed from these two perspectives:

(1) Potential harm from the beneficial reactive agents, and

(2) Potential harm from the unintended by-products.

Though not exhaustive, our intensive research on these two perspectives have been condensed into two detailed write-ups that have been featured on Ezinearticles.com.

Make your bath a safe place in your home

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

Many people think that bathroom is a safe place. The combination of slippery floors and hard surfaces make it a very hazardous environment. Bathroom safety cannot be overlooked any more as many injuries have been reported over the years especially with the elderly in the bathroom.

When designing a bathroom it is paramount that you use slip resistant tiles. Even if you do not plan to redesign your bathroom completely, there are still ways to elliminate slippery surfaces. E.g. you can consider adding adhesive strips to the tiles.

Shower chairs are becoming very popular amongst the elderly. Shower chairs can reduce the fatigue and risk of a fall too. Handheld shower heads also increasy the safety in the bathroom as it can be used comfortly to wash the whole body while sitting down.

Grab Rails also provide a safe route in and out of the shower. These rails can also reduce the risk of a fall significantly. Fixed grab rails that can be used as towel rails offer a great way to conserve the limited bathroom space and keep all necessary things at hand.

Another Bathroom safety tip that is overlooked by the majority of the public is installing child-proof locks for the bathroom cabinets. This inevitably eliminates the risk of poisoning any child that is left unattended in the bathroom. It keeps them far from scissors or shavers which are potentially dangerous.

When talking about safety in the bathroom, most overlook the fact that some people also have their toilet inside the bathroom. Toilet seat raisers can be attached to the top of the toilet bowl to raise the height of the seat. Being higher than normal toilets, getting up off the toilet is an easier job. To help the elderly move to and from the toilet bowl mount grab rails or bars near the toilet.

Some other great ideas that are important to the overall safety of the bathroom are scald-warning devices that change color based on the temperature of the water. This eliminates the risk of being burnt or scald by hot water. We can also put plastic inflatable covers on the taps that will eliminate the risk of falling over and hitting our head.

These are just some of the measures we can take to increase the level of safety within our bathroom.
