Friday, February 27th, 2009Natural Cure For Heartburn Or Urban Myth
A good number of sincere folk are convinced they have found a natural cure for heartburn
although there are just as many quite certain that a natural cure for
heartburn is nothing less than an urban myth. Notwithstanding, it is
probably true that in many cases some of the recommended lotions
and concoctions work as a placebo and in a roundabout way add to a
natural cure for heartburn.
A fair number of the natural cures for heartburn and indigestionin
appear to be harmless flights of fancy but, nevertheless, it
would be advisable to speak to your doctor or a qualified medical
practitioner before embarking on some of the more out of the
run-of-the-mill relief for heartburn remedies. This is especially true in the case of
mothers who often suffer from heartburn while pregnant.
Whenever a heartburn home remedy is discussed, ginger is
cited as a panacea. Undoubtedly, it’s true that
ginger has been a long-time favorite in settling upset stomachs and, in
fact, some boat hire companies specialising in inshore trips give
ginger capsules for this purpose. This may work in some
circumstances with supporting evidence in favour of ginger
in these circumstances. Some different ginger-based products suggested by
their many enthusiasts include ginger in it’s many guises of crystallized stem ginger, ginger tea,
ginger-flavoured pastilles and ginger cookies despite the fact that
the real ginger contained in a ginger cookie is often just below 1%.
Another of the suspects thought by some people to
be most helpful in treating heartburn and indigestion is honey.
Recently there have not been any studies which put forward honey as a
dependable cure for indigestion and heartburn, there’s some
supporting evidence that suggest Active Manuka honey can be helpfull in
treating children who have gastroenteritis. There is no doubt
that Active Manuka honey has a unique antibacterial property
which suggests it should be considered for internal and external
use.
Herbal tea is a favorite with many people when searching for a genuine heartburn home remedies
but which one? There are many popular herb teas which include
seed tea, cinnamon tea, slippery bark elm tea and fennel seed
tea. It is said by some people that these have a soothing effect and
are best taken in the evening.
Liquorice known as DGL - De-Glycyrrhizinated Liquorice -
is well regarded as a natural cure for heartburn in tablet form
if chewed thoroughly well and nicely digested about 15 - 20 minutes before a main
meal.
The juice from the Aloe Vera plant enjoyed a burst of popularity
a few years ago and almost became a catch-all cure for
everything. On the other hand there are some facts to support the
claim that a small glass before a meal will assist in soothing an
out-of-sorts stomach. If you want to try this one ensure your purchase
is for internal use as there are various Aloe Vera products
suitable for exterior use only.
It’s predictable that in any argument about a natural cure for
heartburn there will be at least one exotic if not bizarre
contribution but there are actually two which will take some pluck
and ingenuity to try. One cure the inevitable ginger, but in
this instance out of the African continent, but it must be mixed with something
not available in everyone’s grocery cupboard. If you take sap from a mango tree
with crushed ginger you’ll finish with a concoction known in the
Congo as tangawisi juice - said to cure most stomach ailments.
The other uncommon suggestion, this time available in most
grocery storecupboard, will definitely have to summon up some courage to try
and comes out of France. It is said that it was favoured by the
Spanish Conquistadors in their fifteenth and sixteenth century
century expeditions to the new world. Reality or make-believe, it’s hard to say?
You may need to take a deep breath before you take one teaspoonful of yellow
mustard and, hey presto, within five minutes all your heartburn
will be no more, or so the say!
Without question, most, if not all, of these remedies will
work at some time for some people. On the other hand, you will have to
come to a decision yourself, by trial and error if any is, for you, a
natural heartburn remedy or urban myth.
